I started this quilt many, many years ago after my Aunt Ernestine died. She was my best friend and I loved her dearly. Like me, she was a project person and prior to her death had cut many of these squares in preparation for a quilt. (She was also an avid photographer.) I pieced this quilt using her squares and adding many of my own, including pieces from some of Matt's baby clothes and children's choir costumes.
Years ago, while looking through my quilt book, Leah saw a picture of this quilt top and said, "Ms. Laura, when I get married, I want you to give me this quilt." Well, I began working on it in February, but did not finish it in time for her wedding in March. Thank goodness she is a patient and loving person. I look forward to finally telling her the story of this quilt and the love that went into it. My prayer is that that it will provide warmth and comfort to her new family for many years to come.
