Wild Roses
My friend, Colette, recently posted pictures she had taken at a pitcher plant bog in Baldwin County. They were beautiful. After celebrating Easter with my family, my sister, two nieces, and I took off for the bog. While there, we ran into some old friends who said they come there every Easter to see the flowers. I took a lot of pictures and they were all very beautiful, but I liked this one because every time I look at it, I think about the song we sang in church this morning, "He arose! He arose! Hallelujah Christ arose!" The pitcher plants just seemed to sing resurrection.
I went out today to take pictures of some beautiful white daisies. As I pulled to the side of the road, I found a bundle of vulchers gathered in a circle in the grass. I figured an animal had been hit by a car and they were finishing it off. When I got out and looked around, though, all I found were holes in the ground. Maybe they were looking for crawfish or moles. Anyway, I figured an animal would be a nice change from the standard flowers. Perhaps I'll share some daisies tomorrow.
BTW, did you notice that he's surrounded by flies ... I wonder why?
Today Leroy played Goshen in the first round of the playoffs. Sammie Coates pitched a no-hitter. I think the final score was 20-0. That's a pretty big deal. I know that we had a no hitter a couple of years ago, but I wasn't there. Sammie is a fine young man who will be graduating next month and has committed to play football at Auburn University next year as a wide receiver. We're so blessed to live in a small community with a unit school that allows us to get to know and love everyone. A unit school goes from kindergarten though grade 12. The little kids look up to the older ones as heros, and the big kids always seem to fill those shoes. I watched during the game as a little freckle-faced girl came running to the dugout to talk to Sammie. As always, he was engaging and encouraging as she talked about getting ready to play her own softball game.
Yes ... more wild roses. I told you they would be gone soon, so I'm taking advantage of them. But what a perfect way to celebrate Easter week. This is my favorite week of the year. It's an emotional one too. As a Believer, remembering the sacrifice of Christ and His grace yanks hard at my heart. God's perfect plan hits home when I think about the gift we received 21 years ago on Palm Sunday. That is when our our adopted son was born. He was an incredible gift. That generosity is a reminder of God's gift to all mankind--His son. Jesus willingly sacrificed His life for all who would believe on Him. He did that to enable us to have a personal relationship with a Holy God. Easter Sunday is a celebration of Christ's resurrection. It is a reminder of the new life and freedom we have in Him. I hope all of you have had a blessed Holy Week and have made plans to worship Him on Sunday.
More wild roses. We saw these on the way down to Mobile and stopped back by on our way home. I had to wade into knee-high weeds in high heels (stomping very hard to scare away any snakes) in order to get close enough to photograph them. I sure wish I would have had my telephoto lens. These weren't as full as yesterday's roses, but ranged in color from pale to deep pink and had a nice white inside.
The wild roses are blooming but won't be here for long. They may look large, but they're only 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Tiny little beauties.
