"You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear."
This field isn't much to look at, but I wanted to show how the drought has affected some of our farmers. Peanuts were originally planted here, but were plowed under when they never grew. It was replanted with cotton, which hasn't fared much better. The cotton is growing in the low spots where moisture holds, but most of the field has little or no growth. I've never seen drought like this. Although we are getting back to our normal pattern of hot, humid days with afternoon thunderstorms, we're still breaking the record for the number of consecutive days over 90 degrees (47 days).
(P.S, I know I wouldn't do well as a photojournalist.)
