As I came through Mobile, the Convention Center, Adam's Mark, RSA Tower, and BankTrust buildings were lit up and ready for Mardi Gras. It comes early this year (February 19). The lights on all the buildings went from purple to green to yellow, constantly changing, like time, never standing still. Have a blessed New Year. Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013.
Our day didn't go exactly as planned. I suppose that's how life is and it is fitting that the year should end like that, with ups and downs. It was overcast most of the day, but the sun peeked through a break in the clouds as it set--the sun's final farewell to 2012.
And here's just and extra bundle of cuteness: Mom's cat, Baby Kitty. She was hungry and rolling around at my feet as I was trying to take pictures of the sunset. I finally gave up and made sure she got fed.
Sometimes the clouds are simply mesmerizing. Sunsets are like fingerprints or snowflakes--there's no two exactly alike.

When I was a child, we had a nursery rhyme book that we read, looked at, and colored in (although we weren't supposed to). As we got older, we had records that played those same songs. We wore those records out, singing the songs over and over again. Today these chattering birds in the trees reminded me of the English nursery rhyme, "Sing a Song of Sixpence." Funny how a song about blackbirds popping out of pies and snipping off noses did not terrify me. Even today I still love the rhyme.

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?

The king was in his counting house,
Counting out his money;
The queen was in the parlour,
Eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes;
When down came a blackbird
And pecked off her nose
Full moon at sunset.
Another weed photo.
Another beautiful sunset. As the night deepened, so too did the red, becoming like fire in the sky. "Red skies at night, sailors delight."
