We've had a low front sitting over us for a couple of days bringing in a lot of rain. It hasn't been too bad in our area because we need it, but south of us, along the coast of Alabama and Florida, the rain has been record setting. Yesterday was the second wettest day on record in Pensacola (Florida) with 13.13 inches. One rain gauge, around 11 miles southwest of Pensacola, recorded an amazing 21.70 inches of rain. Today I went to visit my Mom, who lives about 35 miles west of Pensacola, and her property was saturated. Nothing to do outside, so we stayed in and played Mexican train (and, yes, I won). Fun fun.
Just a rainy, lazy Saturday with not much to do, so I popped in a DVD that a friend wanted me to watch, Under the Tuscan Sun. I'm not much of a chick-flick fan, but watched it anyway. It was sweet and made me long to return to Italy. It brought back a lot of good memories. It put me in a great mood, so I popped in another chick-flick, Momma Mia! Again, memories of summers on the Adriatic Sea flooded back. Then with it came the realization that my life is so boring now. Happy, but boring. {sigh} So now I'm planning an adventure. Stay tuned.

But I have to admit that when we drove by this evening, I yelled out to the mowers parked just beyond this patch, "Ah ha! I beat you, mowers! Take that!"
I made Dave stop by the roadside this morning so I could take pictures of these black-eyed Susans. I didn't think the mowers would make it to them before the end of the day, but they did. They cut all of these beauties down--dead.

I'm really having a hard time finding anything for my dailies, but I did find this assassin bug hanging out under some daisy fleabane. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that more bugs will show themselves since the flowers have pretty much disappeared.
Female Eastern Black Swallotail Butterfly (Papilio polyxenes)
I found this katydid on the hydrangea by the front porch. I took several photos and could see in each one how the tiny black pupil in its eye followed me whereever I moved. Neato!
