I had great plans for my photo of the day. The big news all over the country was the arrival of the Carnival Triumph in Mobile after a disastrous voyage. I had a story to tell you. By the time I made it down to the dock, the ship had already been moved for repairs. Drats! But you still get to hear my story.
In 2010, Dave and I took a cruise on the Carnival Triumph out of New Orleans. It was a spur-of-the-moment trip and I carefully chose our cabin on the Main floor. Ha! I thought it was higher up than it was. As it turns out, we were way down in the depths of the ship, directly over the engine room. Now we have a vacation philosophy, "No whining. It's an adventure." So we made the best of it and had a wonderful time, BUT it wasn't all good. We went to Roatan and Belize before heading to Cozumel. That's when the trouble began. The engine died and all night long we had to listen to what sounded like wrenches being banged on pipes. We were told the next day that we would not make it to Cozumel due to engine problems. That wasn't a problem for us since our favorite part of any cruise is "cruising." Luckily, they were able to get the engines restarted and we made it to Cozumel late.
Not a great story, but a story just the same that tied into the news of the day. We're thankful there was no fire while we were aboard, but I guess it goes to show that even as far back as 2010 they were having problems with the engines. A couple of weeks after we returned, the vessel's homeport was moved to Galveston.
