When we lived in Italy, I had a friend named Melissa Steadman. She was from Ohio. Her mother was a teacher who wore white, thigh-high go-go boots and hoop earrings. She was cool. We would play Barbie dolls for hours. Sometimes, when we would find a patch of moss, we would pull it up and use it as our Barbies' shag carpet. Every time I see moss, I think of Melissa and that wonderful part of my childhood.
