Even the Indian Azaelas were popping open to soak in the sunshine.
This is the Admiral Semmes Azalea or Honesuckle Azalea. It is very sweet smelling. It was introduced by Dodd Nurseries in Semmes, Alabama, a suburb of Mobile and was named after the famous Confederate Admiral Raphael Semmes. It's just beginning to bloom. I love the buds because they remind me of rubber chicken heads.
A glance at a few more azaleas before they disappear.
More azaleas on a rainy and overcast day. Happy Monday.
Azaleas are in full bloom and will be gone by the end of this week or next, so I threw in this extra. Mobile was once known as the Azalea City. You could drive through Mobile following the "Azalea Trail" (a pink line painted down the city streets that took you through some of the prettiest azalea neighborhoods). We even have azalea trail maids who dress in period costumes in colors of the beautiful azaleas, with hoop skirts as wide as the Southern Indian Azaleas. Now the city is trying to sell itself as the "Port City." Personally, I prefer Azalea City, but no one asked me.
