And these are soaking up the sunshine -- just waiting to open. Let's hope they get the chance.

This little black-eyed susan is newly opened -- "soft as a baby's bottom."
The mowers are on the move and I'm scrambling to find all the wildflowers before they're plowed under. (They already mowed down the beautiful painted black-eyed susans from last Monday's post.)
I'm not sure if they are a coneflower or variety of black-eyed Susan. I just love the bits of maroon on the inside.

I saw this little cluster of wildflowers on an off ramp of the interstate.
But I have to admit that when we drove by this evening, I yelled out to the mowers parked just beyond this patch, "Ah ha! I beat you, mowers! Take that!"
I made Dave stop by the roadside this morning so I could take pictures of these black-eyed Susans. I didn't think the mowers would make it to them before the end of the day, but they did. They cut all of these beauties down--dead.
Another black-eyed susan from a different patch in the road. Oh, and a little spider giving her a hug.
