I missed much of the activity at the feeder this morning (stayed in bed too long), but saw this cardinal in the afternoon.
Of course, a Northern cardinal. (Not a clear picture--my VR was turned off.)
And this female cardinal was staking out the feeder too.

The male cardinal below was feeding a young one. He wasn't very pretty and seemed to be missing his crown. Cardinals are monogamous, mating for life. The oldest known cardinal lived for over 15 years. I'm guessing this daddy has been raising young'uns for a very long time and is probably quite old.
I got up early to go to my home church to celebrate homecoming. It was so nice to see the pastor who married us and ordained Dave. Bro. George and Diane have not changed much at all, with the exception of a few grey hairs. It's always nice to reminisce with old friends. We had a wonderful day.

(Oh, my lens fogged up when I went from the cool air conditioning to the hot humid morning, but I lucked up having this cardinal sit still long enough to capture his portrait. He was a little miffed with me because I forgot to bring the seeds out on my first trip to the car. Don't worry, he was happily tweeting as I pulled out of the driveway with the ground covered in seeds.)

This little lady made a stop by my tree this morning. I'm glad to see a pair of cardinals checking in at the feeder. Matt called me several hours later and said, "Mom, there's a brown bird in the front yard with a really orange nose." I said, "Is it a cardinal?" "It looks like a cardinal, but it's brown." LOL! He had never seen a female cardinal. (I told him too that it wasn't a nose, it was a beak.)
I've waited all season for a cardinal and almost missed this one. He flew in just as I was taking the cat into the house. I think he loved the new treat bar I put out. I'm gonna have to get another one so he and his female friend stay around.
