I submitted some photographs to Outdoor Alabama and won third place in two categories. They both appeared in the February 2011 issue, which just came in the mail yesterday. I submitted two photos for the "Other Wildlife" category: the ladybug and the banana spider. My favorite was the spider, but I guess some people are creeped out by spiders and it didn't win. The last time I entered a photo contest was in the mid-1980s at the Greater Gulf State Fair. I won a couple of blue and red ribbons, but the photos were never published.

I don't normally share a series of pictures taken on the same day, but I wanted to show you how something really unremarkable looking from afar can hold a beauty up close. This is a little weed that I noticed in the clover field several days ago and went back today to get a picture. You can see the relative size of the little flowers in proportion to the lady bug.
