I always like little surprises, like this seven-spotted lady beetle (a/k/a ladybug) on a bull thistle.
A little Carolina Jasmine ... and a little lady bug.
I don't know what the tiny red bug on top was.  It looked like a tick and it was super-sonic fast.
I was happy to find my first ladybug of the year.

I submitted some photographs to Outdoor Alabama and won third place in two categories.  They both appeared in the February 2011 issue, which just came in the mail yesterday.  I submitted two photos for the "Other Wildlife" category:  the ladybug and the banana spider.  My favorite was the spider, but I guess some people are creeped out by spiders and it didn't win.  The last time I entered a photo contest was in the mid-1980s at the Greater Gulf State Fair.  I won a couple of blue and red ribbons, but the photos were never published.
