Our church is generous in the number of days they give Dave for vacation, but he usually ends the year with unused days. He decided to take some vacation days this week to wash down the house, clean the carpet, and do other fix-up stuff around the house. He took today off too, so we visited our best friends' church and then ran some errands in Mobile and Baldwin County. We had a gift card to Olive Garden (one of my favorite restaurants--I can't ever get enough salad). As we left the Olive Garden, we noticed this mockingbird. It had taken a bath and was preening itself in the sunshine. Not a pretty site, but an good change from yellow flowers.

Most if not all of the migratory birds have moved on, but the mockingbirds are settling in. They seem especially active, singing and screaming at their rivals. This time of year always reminds me of the movie "Failure to Lauch," when the roommate is driven to take aim at a mockingbird singing outside her window.
