It was really windy today. I sat on the porch watching a pair of mockingbirds fly to and fro finding eats for their little hatchlings. They built their nest in the azalea bush and I could see at least two little heads. The hungrier the little ones got, the louder they became. Sounds like it won't be long before they leave the nest. Unlike humans, once the children leave the nest, they never return. I'm kinda thinking that's a good thing
The Rest of the Story ...
So, why am I posting a picture of a silly ole mockingbird rather than baseball on a wonderfully beautiful, sunny spring day? Well, here's the rest of the story. As we finished working in the yard last night, Dave came around the corner carrying a ladder to the front porch. His intent? To replace the flood lights on the corner of the house. Hmm ... how can he do that with only one good hand, you ask? I asked the same thing.
"I can do it."
"No, you will not. Get out of the way, I'll do it."
"I can do it."
"Now Dave, how are you going to do it with only one hand? Get up on the ladder, hold on with what? You can't even grip a pen, let alone a ladder. I'll do it, get the lightbulbs and come hold the ladder."
All went well. The lights were replaced and repositioned. Perfect (so I thought); but as I stepped off the last rung of the ladder into a hole, my right ankle twisted and I heard a pop (louder than the popping of a knuckle) and I fell flat on my back. Ouch!
I spent the rest of the night with ice and elevation. I was determined to go to see my Leroy alumni play, but I just couldn't do it, it was just too exhausting. All I could do was sit on the front porch and take pictures of whatever came into the yard. Thus, the mockingbird.
Now you know "the rest of the story."
