Instead, we soaked up the sun on the porch and chased this lizard around the potted plant.
This is my animal rescue for the day. He was making his way across a busy highway, so I pulled over and hastened his trip. No turtle soup today. But when I decided to get his cheesy face, he decided to chase me. Now, mind you, he wasn't big, but he didn't like the camera in his face. Dave thinks he was a snapping turtle, I'm pretty sure he wasn't.
My great niece and I chased this green anole all around the pump house until he changed colors and found a crack to hide in. We didn't do it out of meanness; I just wanted to show her how great nature is and to teach her not to be afraid of lizards.
... but the green anole was back and he was mesmerized, longingly watching them from a safe place on the hydrangea bush.
When I came out of the house with my camera, he climbed back up to the top to watch all the activities. He seemed at times to be lulled asleep by the noise. I think he's in love with them. Such a strange thing.
And look who else returned. When I arrived home from a baby shower he was actually down on the one of the stems of the feeder. So strange.
I don't know what the green anole was doing. He seemed to be as fascinated by the hummingbirds as I was. He sat on the column seemingly forever just watching them. They were checking him out too. I finally shooed him off so they could eat in peace.
I had the day off in anticipation of Hurricane Isaac. As it turns out, the entire day was sunny with the exception of a small squall that came through during the late morning. I spent some time on the porch, watching the hummingbirds, but soon found myself fascinated with this green anole who skirted the porch and played hide-and-seek from the dogs and cats. Hoping all of my friends in the path of the storm weather it well. Keeping you all in my prayers.

So, after fighting the ginger-headed caterpillars, I was faced with another excitement. I had a headache, so I took two Tylenol and tried to take a nap. That wouldn't work because Baxter was in the front yard bark, bark, barking. The other dogs were quiet, so I wondered if he was badgering the cat. I went outside and told him to hush. He came out from under the giant azalea bushes, looked at me, and then went back under and began barking again. I got my fly swatter so I could show him who was boss and followed him into the bushes. The other dogs were just laying around, yet Bax continued to bark. I couldn't see anything and began to venture deeper, but then I felt like someone poked me on the butt--you know, like they were trying to scare me. No one was there, but it gave me pause and I decided to go to the outside of the fence to look in. I saw something that looked a lot like a balled up python. It was a snake! Yikes! I needed to get the dogs away from him, so I called them inside the house and grabbed my camera figuring I could get a better look with it. He appeared to have round eyes, which is a good sign (I had not noticed the pit below his eye).
