Muscadine or Scuppernong?
Everyone has an opinion and seemingly no right answer. I've been taught that muscadine grapes are dark and purple and scuppernong grapes are light and golden. Others say, "All scuppernongs are muscadines, but not all muscadines are scuppernongs." I guess it only matters to those who truly know the difference. Just like the Southern terms "dinner" and "supper." If you're born and raised in the South, then you KNOW that dinner is a full meal at mid-day and supper is the evening meal. If you live in other parts of the country, dinner and supper are interchangeable. Either way, scuppernongs and muscadines are wild grapes, eaten raw or used to make jelly or wine.
