Did you know that they are monogamous?
Mom has a field of oats growing around her house and the birds are everywhere. I saw a lot of birds - cardinals, orioles, swallows, mockingbirds, and even a hummingbird - but I was especially excited to photograph this pair of indigo buntings.
The field surrounding Mom's house was full of activity this morning. There were a lot of birds, but I couldn't get close enough to know what they were. I'm guessing they were either blue grosbeak or indigo buntings.
And watched as this Carolina chickadee opened and ate sunflower seeds in the tree.
I missed much of the activity at the feeder this morning (stayed in bed too long), but saw this cardinal in the afternoon.
This is my animal rescue for the day. He was making his way across a busy highway, so I pulled over and hastened his trip. No turtle soup today. But when I decided to get his cheesy face, he decided to chase me. Now, mind you, he wasn't big, but he didn't like the camera in his face. Dave thinks he was a snapping turtle, I'm pretty sure he wasn't.
The mockingbird waits to run off the other birds at the feeder.
And looky here--a rose-breasted grosbeak. I've never seen one of them before. Cool.
It was a rainy, but colorful day at the feeder. I think this is a blue grosbeak.
