Making My Way Through 2010: One Resolution Kept

Just 4 more days and my 2010 Project 365 will come to an end.
Every year millions of us make resolutions to remake ourselves into better people–skinnier, more patient, more compassionate, more Christ-like–but too few of us actually change. After years and years of trying, many of us have given up or just reworked our mantra. After years of broken resolutions, my mantra began to reflect the words of Paul, “I have learned to be content in all circumstances,” which wasn't much of an incentive for change. But sometimes, one tiny resolution can teach us many different things about ourselves and our world and change us into better people.

At the end of 2009, several of my photographer friends began talking about their “365 Project.” I’ve always enjoyed photography and was intrigued, but I wondered if I could actually take a picture every day for a whole year–that’s a big commitment. Instead of just pressing the shutter button on a camera, I would have to tell my camera what to do. Instead of just keeping my photos in my camera for months at a time, I would have to blog and share my photos every day. Instead of settling for a poorly lit or poorly composed photo, I would have to be critical of my work and learn how to change. Instead of just waiting for the perfect moment, I would to make the moment perfect. I didn’t think I could do it, but a couple of my “photog” friends from around the world encouraged me to give it a try. What could it hurt? I took the plunge and am delighted with the outcome.
